Deaf Cafe Devotion for 2/27/09

There is a story about a woman who one day burst into her Pastor’s office. “Pastor,” she said, “I have a problem and I am terribly afraid. There are two people following me all around and they will not leave me alone.”

“Who are they?” asked the Pastor.

“I have no idea.” The lady replied.

“Have you called the police?”

“Yes.” She said, “But they say they cannot see anyone following me.”

“Have you talked to your doctor?”

“Yes, but he says I am imagining things.”

The Pastor thought for a moment and said, “I know who they are. They are David’s friends.”

“David’s friends?”

“Yes David’s friends. Their names are Goodness and Mercy. David wrote about them in Psalm 23. And they will follow you all the days of your life.”

“6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23:6 KJV)

The woman left the office with two new friends and a new outlook on life. There was no more fear. There was confidence and peace.

Isn’t that great? Jesus is with us in the form of the Holy Spirit as He promised. And God sent His friends Goodness and Mercy to follow us and be with us all the days of our lives. And we will live with God in heaven FOREVER. That is God’s promise.

When we face of many barriers, and when it seems we are in the deepest part of the darkest valleys of our life, we CAN shout the Lord's goodness and mercy are with us.

We can also shout His goodness and love will never leave us or fail us.

As we live for Him and not for ourselves, His goodness in us follows who we are and what we do. Because of God's goodness, in the middle of the worst times, God’s goodness and mercy will not fail.

In the shadow of death, the Father lifts us up by the power of His love into our eternal life.

Yes, we CAN experience the goodness of God.

We have His joy in us we cannot express. Every day, for the rest of our life, we have the Lord's mercy and forgiveness from His love.

Instead of holding our wrongs and transgressions against us, Christ does not see our wrongs. This is because He paid that price for us on the Cross.

We have accepted Him into our heart. In our hearts, we will have goodness and mercy all the days of our life.
