Deaf Devotion 9/25/2009

“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT)

If someone were to say, "Win the day," would we know what it means? Winning the day spiritually entails two things essentially.

Number one, it means that we are successful in beating back all of Satan's attempts to slow or retard our daily growth toward spiritual maturity.

But, secondly, it also means that we are enabling the Holy Spirit in our life to help us take every opportunity to move down the road to spiritual maturity and win souls for Jesus.

Winning the day spiritually is largely a matter of controlling what we allow to take into our bodies, what we allow into our minds, and into our eyes. And it also means controlling what we allow to stay once they enter, and what we do with what we allow to stay.

If we are struggling with temptation today, we need to be careful where we get our advice. Make sure we get our advice from Godly sources.

When we think about what Jesus did when He went to the Cross, and when we think about the pain He endured, the shame that He endured, the suffering that He endured, it is clear that He did it all because He loves us. When we think about that, we should want to live the same way He lived on this earth. And if we do that we will find ourselves winning the day.

If we choose to live some other way, our winning the day is up for grabs, but one of the best ways for us to win the day is to invite Jesus into our day. This means to invite the Holy Spirit in the love of the Lord Jesus.

The Bible talks about living as a person who knows and understands the importance of living carefully. “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.” (Ephesians 5:15 NLT)

So, winning the day isn't really rocket science, it's just good common sense. It's taking the Bible and applying it to our lives. If we want the right things, if we want the things that please God, the things that not only please God but bless our life, that is winning the day. That is a good day.

The more we want to do what pleases the Lord, the more we will go places that please the Lord. The more we will see things that we know pleases the Lord. The more we will say things that please the Lord.

And the key is this: it is possible to win the day spiritually. It does not matter who we are, where we are, what we have done up until this point, we can win today for Jesus.

This is not easy. Nobody said or promised it would be easy. But IT IS possible. If we follow God's Word, God will help us by the Holy Spirit to win this day for Jesus. We can do it and God can help.
